Best of America Small Works International Juried Exhibition | 5/9-5/31 | Cincinnati, OH

Small Works, Big Show

The National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society presents its annual small works exhibition.

Featuring small works by member artists from around the country and globe, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) presents the 8th annual Best of America Small Works International Juried Exhibition. This year, the juried show, comprising 120 paintings of 320 square inches or less, will be hosted by Eisele Gallery in Cincinnati.

“Cincinnati has a thriving, exciting art community and we wanted to take advantage of this beautiful city,” says NOAPS president Pat Tribastone. “We have had exhibitions all around the U.S., from the East Coast to Montana, Florida to Santa Fe! We love moving our shows around the country to provide our artists with exhibition opportunities and find collectors all over the country.”

The National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society is a growing organization of about 1,500 members from around the country, Canada and the world. The group mounts five exhibitions per year: three online and two gallery exhibits. Their annual Best of America Small Works International Juried Exhibitionoffers collectors the opportunity to purchase works by significant artists at a lower price point than at other NOAPS shows.

More than $30,000 in cash and sponsor prizes will be presented at the awards reception on May 9 at the National Exemplar restaurant at the Mariemont Inn. Last year’s winner of the $3,000 Best in Show award went to James Swanson for his oil Water Guardian. Other highlights of the 2024 event included Tom Lockhart’s Sundown on the Wintry Back, which won Best Use of Light and Color, and second place winner Blair Atherholt’s Opening Day.

The exhibition will also be preceded by a plein air competition titled Cincy in the Spring on May 7 and 8, with a sale of the freshly painted works on May 9. Other events include a gallery talk by NOAPS Master Artist Hebe Brooks and Pat Tribastone on Thursday, May 8, at 10 a.m., and a group trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum that afternoon. All events are free and open to the public.

“Spring is a wonderful time in Cincinnati, and the weather is perfect for plein air painting,” says Tribastone. “The trails and parks are coming alive, and the flowers are in full bloom after a winter rest!”
